Fire Breaks Out in Bandra Slum, Nine Fire Engines Reach Spot

A massive fire has broken out in a slum at Lalmati, opposite Bandra Fire Station on Nagardas Road in Mumbai. According to reports, it is a level-three fire. While there have been no reports of casualty so far, rescue operations are underway. At least eight water tankers, nine fire engines and ten fire tenders have been deployed to put out the blaze.

The incident took place around 11.50 am in Nargis Dutt Nagar slum in Bandra (West), PTI quoted a statement of the disaster management cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). “A joint team of fire brigade, ward staffers and Mumbai Police personnel has been mobilised to douse the flames,” it added.

Local MLA and Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shellar is overseeing the rescue efforts. He said that prima facie the fire was a result of a cylinder blast in the slum.
