Hiking in the Rain

As the monsoon starts, there are many good places available for the tourists for hiking in various parts of Maharashtra.

Including Bhivpuri, Chinchoti near Dahisar, two hours from Mumbai, Tungareshwar, Randhha Falls near Igatpuri which is created from Wilson dam, Pandavkada in Kharghar area, zenith waterfalls in Khopoli, Palasadari on Mumbai-Pune highway, Ghadeshwar waterfall, Phansad waterfall, Murud- Janjira situated Sawatkada, Navi Mumbai, Ghansoli village situated Gavalidev Waterfall, Kondeshwar waterfall near Badlapur, these place mostly used for tracking in rainy season.

Dabhosa waterfalls in Jawhar hill station of Thane district, Kawani in Nashik-Trimbakeshwar area. Many forts like Gadagada, Tringalwadi, Harihar, Basgad, Anjnari etc can be used as a picnic spot in the rain.

The tourist visiting Amboli, Ramtirtha, Gokak waterfall and many tourist places to enjoy the monsoon season. But it is necessary to take care of our valuable life while enjoying every Moment of environment view. Your one wrong step may affect your life.

Tungareshwar is a famous Chinchoti waterfall, and every year there is a crowd of tourists during the monsoon. More than 120 people had gone for tourism in the Chinchoti waterfall area. But all the citizens were stuck due to the heavy rains in the area. As soon as the information was received, the NDRF team reached the spot and shifted the hundred of people to safe places. However, one person who lived in Kandivli died due to an accident.

In the monsoon, mostly the youngsters from all the cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Sangli, Satara, visit the waterfall and so many trekking spots. There are special tourism packages which provide trekking facility. These trekkers choose a fort or a hill and carry out their campaign in a disciplined manner; But today, some overenthusiastic people get carried away with alcohol on these roads. A number of young people are madly in love with selfies, and to take good selfies they sometimes put there lives in danger. Last year, many people died due to similar kind of reasons.

In the last few years, incidents of trekkers getting lost, drowned or falling down a gorge are on the rise. Every monsoon, numerous cases are registered, especially on weekends.

According to the rural police, almost 15 people have died so far while 50 others were injured at various waterfalls and forts around Pune and Mumbai. Recently, two Mumbai trekkers were rescued after a five-hour long rescue operation from Raigad district after they fell 200 feet. On the same day, two trekkers drowned at the Devkund waterfall, Bhira in Raigad district.

However, as we all know that prevention is more necessary to be safe, Just follow the safety rules, and enjoy your trek.

Checklist for Trekkers

With commercial group

* Check if the group has several years of experience in organising treks

* Check if the trek leaders are experienced and have completed advanced mountaineering course, have knowledge of first aid

* Check if they have enough manpower and resources to handle an emergency situation

Going on your own

* Gather as much information as you can about the place

* Some places, which are safe in winter, become dangerous during the monsoon

* Avoid overcrowded places

* If you are visiting for the first time, take a local guide or villager

* Pay attention to villagers, follow their instructions and act accordingly

* Refrain yourself from taking selfies at dangerous places like edge of the cliff, waterfalls, slippery roads
