Jammu and Kashmir bifurcation: darkest day in Indian democracy, says Mehbooba Mufti

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti tweeted saying that Monday, August 5, marked the darkest day in Indian democracy.

“Decision of J&K leadership to reject 2 nation theory in 1947 & align with India has backfired. Unilateral decision of GOI to scrap Article 370 is illegal & unconstitutional which will make India an occupational force in J&K,” she tweeted.

Her remarks came after the announcement of the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Central Government, on Monday, introduced a resolution to scrap provisions of article 370, which gives the State of Jammu and Kashmir special powers, and announced that the State would henceforth be the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

“It will have catastrophic consequences for the subcontinent. GOIs intentions are clear. They want the territory of J&K by terrorising its people. India has failed Kashmir in keeping its promises,” she added.
