Kopri Bridge Extension Work in Full Swing

Eastern Express Highway which connects Thane and Mumbai near Kopri, witnesses heavy traffic in the prime hours and to avoid the traffic on the Highway, the extension of the Kopri bridge was proposed and accordingly, MMRDA and Railways are going to collectively carry out the construction work.

The Kopri bridge on the Eastern Express Highway comes partly under the railways and state government.

The part of the bridge which comes under the control of Railways will be developed by the railways and the expenditure cost for the extension of the bridge is estimated to be around 53.46 crores, railways have begun with the tender process and the work is believed to be completed in 120 days.

The other part of the bridge will be developed by MMRDA, which have allotted the work to a private company and the estimated cost of expenditure for this project is around 256 crores. But there might be chances of obstacles of railway authority permissions so MMRDA has included railways in the project as well.

Once the tender process is completed and contracts are granted, development work will attain pace and the work can be completed before time.

On 21st May, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis visited Thane for Bhoomipujan of the Kopri bridge extension work and have ordered the authorities to complete the work before the stipulated period of time using the modern technologies.

Now it is the matter of coordination between MMRDA and the Railways to collectively workout for the extension of the bridge within 36 months, as the bridge is going to witness heavier traffic than ever before during the construction work will be under progress.

Thane city is under limelight as the city is going to get an eight-lane express highway bridge towards Mumbai, new railway station between Thane-Mulund. The city will be observed to be under construction in the coming years.
