MMRDA has finally noded for the much-awaited Bhayander-Vasai bridge

MMRDA has released the tender for construction of a six-lane Bhayander-Vasai bridge for vehicles on Bhayander Creek. The project work which was approved in 2013 has finally got the positive nod from the MMRDA department.

The project worth Rs 1100 crores is expected to be completed in the next two years. This can be achieved by passing Vasai to Bhaindar in just 10 minutes.

The Vasai-Virar city is connected to Mumbai via railway route. Although it takes just 10 minutes to reach from Bhayander to Vasai by train it takes more than one and a half hours to travel through the highway. So, the time spent by the road and the cost of fuel was more costly.

Demand was constantly made to construct a parallel bridge on the Bhayander creek. The then Navghar Manikpur Nagar Parishad had submitted proposal of Rs 100 crore to the bridge to the then MMRDA president Ratnakar Gaikwad.

MMRDA approved the work of this bridge in 2013. However, due to various reasons, the work of the bridge could not be commenced.

The MMRDA has finally published the tender for the Bhayander-Vasai bridge work, the final approval will be given till October 15.

MMRDA Project Director Dilip Kawthkar informed that all the process of this bridge has been completed and we have published the tender. He said that this bridge will be completed in two years.

Construction of the bridge will be as follows:

  1. There will be a parallel bridge from the Bhayander Creek to the Railway Bridge.
  2. Its length is five kilometres, and the width is 30 meters. It will be a six-lane bridge.
  3. This bridge will have an exit point at Bhayander, Panju and Naigaon.
  4. The total expenditure of the bridge is around 1100 crores.

Once the exit is given towards Naigav, it will be connected to the ring root. From there it will be connected from Vasai to Virar’s Narangi area. By connecting Bhayander with the Netaji Subhash Chandra Marg, the bridge will go further till Dahisar. As such, a person travelling from Vasai can go directly to Bhayander in 10 minutes and then to Mumbai.

The boat is the only option to go to Panju Island, which is between Naigaon and Bhayander. Travelling through the creek during the rainy season was quite risky. A new bridge on the Creek is a good news for the villagers residing in Panju island.
