Water Crisis in Thane, due to Excess Demand

Though the dam which provides water was full in July and had started overflowing, still Thanewill have to face the water crisis, as the demand is more than the daily permitted quota of the water to the city.

The total capacity of the dam which provides water to Thane is 39.46 million cubic litres, but as per the demand the city needs more water than the permitted quota, Thane city very much needs a new source for water.

Keeping in mind the rising populations, demands have been increased, so there is a need for a separate dam to the city to meet the needs.

Different authorities are allowed to take up to 1240 million litres of water from the total sources. But 1521 million litres of water is actually taken on the daily basis.

The total shortage of water is around 22% if water is taken up as per the demand, so the authority has no other option than taking up the decision of water cuts.

Despite the satisfactory rainfall, the city will have to face the water crisis, the authority will have to look into this issue, as in future this might lead to a heavy water crisis. New water reservoirs should be planned for Thane to avoid such crisis in the future.
