In any business, employees should be equipped with the knowledge and skills to carry out their day-to-day tasks and encouraged to develop new skills through training.

By creating a culture where employees know that they will be offered training if they need to or wish to, you are not only creating a safe space for your employees to stay for the long run but also ensuring that the business will benefit in the future from having well-equipped staff operating the business.

What do we mean by staff training?

When we say staff training, we mean a programme implemented internally by a team manager, team leader, or other authority figure to upskill the staff within the business.

The first form of training is the New Starter training.

When a new member of staff joins the business, we ensure that they receive the appropriate onboarding training so they can be effective in their new role immediately. This usually happens using team members who have been in the business for a long time so they can support a new staff member in understanding processes and procedures and train them on how to perform the role.

Having an internal training team can be extremely beneficial, as the trainers can tailor each training session to fit the company culture, use specific company examples when explaining certain subjects and features, and answer any possible internal questions.

It is also important for a business to arrange staff training for existing staff to ensure their knowledge is up-to-date. Existing members of staff need to have the opportunity to not only attend refresher training that will help them with their current roles and responsibilities, but they should also have the opportunity to upskill themselves and learn new skills if they wish to.

Why is training for existing staff important?

Offering existing staff the opportunity to sign up for training courses has many benefits. First of all, it is a great way to keep staff from “jumping ship.” An employer that allows their staff to develop internally is a company that will more likely keep people longer, as the staff will feel appreciated and valued and that they can grow professionally at the place they work. This will also reduce possible costs that come with replacing members of staff, which again benefits the company in the long term.

Training staff members will also help increase the company’s efficiency. The staff will develop new skills and be more likely to learn new ways of working through the training, which ultimately will help the company and certain processes work.

When new or existing staff attend internal training, team managers and supervisors spend less time supporting them as they will be well-equipped to perform their tasks.

By taking this approach, companies will retain proactive and motivated staff who approach their responsibilities with a positive attitude while growing in the business. It also benefits companies by increasing productivity and reducing costs.
