Blockchain technologies revolutionized financial transactions by recording transactions on a public distributed ledger, decentralizing logic, increasing security, and driving down costs. The increased security provided by decentralization will also improve lives of the unbanked by granting greater access to financial means. Voting will undergo a similar transformation.

In today’s elections, voters cannot be 100% sure if a vote is actually counted. There are all sorts of expensive mitigations in place that attempt to address this gap in public trust, including auditors, cameras, processes, and recounting. Secure and accessible voting is particularly difficult to achieve in democratic systems with disenfranchised populations.

Netvote solves the voting problem by using blockchain technologies to turn a vote into a publicly-verifiable transaction accessible on mobile devices.

An election platform must be all of the following:

  • Secure: Ensure only authorized voters may vote once when allowed
  • Transparent: Reveal votes & results to everyone after the election
  • Trustworthy: Preserve trust that my vote counted
  • Anonymous: Prevent linking a person to a particular vote
  • Accessible: Allow any authorized voter to vote

Blockchain alone does not solve all portions of elections, including the competing concerns of registration, authentication, authorization, and anonymous voting. Netvote solves these fundamental election requirements by separating identification, authorization, and voting in a multi-step process with mechanisms to prevent collusion between these steps.

Netvote addresses the multidimensional problems of elections via both On-Chain and Off-Chain components.

Voting on blockchain technology will transform the way governments and organizations operate elections, as well as make secure voting substantially more accessible for the disenfranchised.

We are excited to share our solution with the world and make every vote count. Stay tuned for future technical blog posts that go into the details of Netvote’s solution. For more information, please see our white paper and visit our website.
