Use Social Media
In the previous blogs, I talked about how to network and some practices, but I forget an ultimate important tool: social media. My MGG303 classmate Israel’s blog “Link Up with LinkedIn” reminds me that using media to connect with people is also a fundamental part of networking.
Why LinkedIn
It is a professional website to network with people who need a job or who provide a job opportunity. Additionally, as Israel said, “LinkedIn is an extraordinary tool to use as an online resume.” (Israel, 2018) We can post our resume to apply for an internship, and we can get feedback on our resume. What’s more important, members can link their profile with other people who might have the similar interest or people you may know. Then, you create an online communication tool and expand your network. People can not only get to know more friends but also learn from a discussion on LinkedIn.
For example, the question what makes an ideal CEO? People have a different thought about this, and they can write a comment to discuss. One of my favorite answers is from Dr. Louis Giordano “Great leaders are shaped not by being endowed with pedigree or uncontrollable attributes, but rather by practicing behaviors accessible to all of us.” (2018)
My suggestion
If you already have used LinkedIn, keep using it. If not, you should create an account as soon as possible and begin your online networking. Also, I encourage my classmates to have a Bizlink account. This website is an excellent resource for business majors students. It can not only connect with people, but also provide a lot of social events to attend. You can meet and connect with people have the related major, consular from different companies.
Conclusion
A good networker requires the ability to connect with people in real life, but online networking is also essential. In a nutshell, bravely networking with people, using the right tie, excellent communication ability and networking online are four critical parts. The practices skills can help you to improve networking ability.
