How to improve Networking skills

The only way to better yourself at most things is to practice that skill or event over and over again. A common saying that I have heard grown up hearing is that practice makes perfect, and networking skills is something that I would like to perfect. The only way to perfect this skill is to take every opportunity and try building on it. Speaking to your peers, business professionals, or even just starting a random conversation all help build communication skills, and may even help create new relationships. As a freshman, I was too shy, which made it hard for me to make friends, but with my new look on communication I have come a long way since then. A person can also practice their communication skills with their close friends, because they could help critique the way you do somethings. Taking advantage of every situation will not only help you become a better communicator, but as well as a networker.

A peers view on Networking

After reading through Josh’s blog, he had made many valuable points about how important it is to build your networking skills. Although we do not all think the same way, Josh ( a peer) and I believe many of the same things when it come to networking. Josh Israel is a junior, in the business program at the University at Buffalo and he has many great ideas on what networking is and how to become a better networker. For example Josh sated “I wanted to make sure I tried to speak with every visitor to broaden my comfort zone.” (Israel, 2018) In other words Josh felt as if he should talk to every possible person of authority in order to improve his networking skills. This idea is one that is very similar to mine, because talking to professionals now will make it easier for the future, when students like us try finding a job. His comfort zone much like mine was not the best when talking to new people, so for both us to step out of our comfort zone is a step in the right direction.

You can do it too.

It maybe hard to step out of your comfort zone, but it may benefit you in the long run, because one cannot grow if they are not willing to try new things. Life is too short, so everyone should go out and set them selves up for success.
