Hundreds of organizations are now auto-generating work items in Azure DevOps. Meet TachyonGPT.

Generating epics, features, user stories, tasks, and test cases can suck time away from what matters most, building legendary software. TachyonGPT will give you that time back.

Many of these tasks are time-consuming and eat into valuable time. Missing a simple basketball layup can be embarrassing and costly, and similarly, not writing a good user story or test case can result in bugs or bad features in software development.

At Neudesic, we are constantly looking for ways to increase our productivity, and what’s better at increasing productivity than Generative AI, specifically OpenAI? The problem still remained with a lot of unnecessary back-and-forths between applications. OpenAI to ADO and back, ctrl+c, ctrl+v, over and over again. With a focus on speed, efficiency, and value, we built an extension integrating the generative power of OpenAI into ADO. Giving us more time for genuine problem-solving, and innovation, and fostering a closer connection with our users. In essence, we wanted to simplify and enhance the developer experience.

Enter TachyonGPT

Powered by OpenAI, and building on the capabilities of ChatGPT, TachyonGPT is a free extension for Azure DevOps (ADO) developed by the team at Neudesic. It assists product managers, engineers, UI/UX specialists, and business analysts by auto-generating or enhancing feature descriptions, user stories, acceptance criteria, developer tasks, test plans, test cases, and more. As of now, it offers two primary features:

  1. Generate: TachyonGPT facilitates the generation of major work items in ADO, utilizing OpenAI to generate titles, descriptions, acceptance criteria, associated child work items, and more, all with a single click. Supported ADO work items include: Epics, Features, User Stories, Tasks, Test Plans, Test Suites, and Test Cases.
  2. Refine: Refine the generated results within the TachyonGPT by providing your own prompts. This will ensure that the content generated meets your specific requirements.

Capabilities of TachyonGPT

TachyonGPT links all the work items in your ADO project, providing you with a contextualized lineup of user stories, developer tasks, and test plans. To begin, all you need is a Title. Dive deep into its functionalities from start to finish with this comprehensive overview.

Crafting Feature Descriptions

Based on the Title you input, TachyonGPT auto-generates the features description. If the provided feature description doesn’t meet your expectations, TachyonGPT enables you to easily tweak the content via the custom UI. We built a custom UI for TachyonGPT to ensure that you control the content, TachyonGPT will never save any content into ADO without your explicit permission.

Auto-generate User Stories and Acceptance Criteria

Breaking down user stories can be challenging and time-consuming. Save time and avoid potential missed requirements by using TachyonGPT to generate (or validate) your feature’s user stories and descriptions. If you wish to integrate content within user story descriptions, for instance, by adding “include the customer value in each user story,” TachyonGPT will seamlessly apply it across all user stories.

Revisiting the user story allows you to generate Acceptance Criteria based on “Specific Refinements” or the “Surprise me” feature.

Auto-populate Developer Tasks

With the feature description, user stories, and acceptance criteria in place, the next step is outlining developers’ tasks. TachyonGPT simplifies this process. Simply click “Generate Tasks” to view a curated list of tasks ready for refinement or assignment.

Generate Test Steps, Plans, and Suites Directly in Azure DevOps

Effective software relies on rigorous testing; however, limited time and resources can pose challenges. TachyonGPT simplifies the process by generating test cases for you. It can even generate a test plan and suite if needed.

Note: AI Augmentation > AI Automation

We suggest teams use TachyonGPT to initiate or refine work items. It’s an excellent tool for saving time, reducing risk, and alleviating stress — it’s not a magic solution. The content within the work items is yours, TachyonGPT just helps you generate it.

How Can I Access TachyonGPT?

You’ll find TachyonGPT in the Azure Marketplace with the low price of $0. You just need to bring your own Azure OpenAI or OpenAI API key. Installation and setup is a breeze.

Data Privacy

The TachyonGPT extension does not collect or store any of the data that you enter into Azure DevOps (ADO) or through the TachyonGPT user interface. This includes data such as your work item titles, descriptions, and comments.

The only data that TachyonGPT stores is the API key information that you use to configure the extension. This API key is used to authenticate your requests to the OpenAI API. Once the extension is configured, all of your interactions with TachyonGPT are processed locally on your machine. This means that your data is never sent to Neudesic or any other third party.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind about TachyonGPT’s data privacy:

  • The extension does not collect any personal information about you, such as your name, email address, or company.
  • The extension does not store any information about the work items that you create or edit.
  • The extension does not track your browsing activity or any other information about your use of ADO.

What’s on the Horizon?

We’re eager to refine TachyonGPT based on your feedback. If you have suggestions or insights, we’re all ears!
