CBC’s The Current perpetuating harmful myths about Adult ADHD (part 1 of 2)

On March 5, 2025 Matt Galloway, host of CBC’s The Current, aired an episode segment asking the question, “Why are more adults being diagnosed with ADHD?”
There were a few moments where they could have addressed some really important issues, such as the lack of timely access to assessment, diagnosis, and support.
Instead they decided to regurgitate out-dated and long-ago debunked rhetoric about technology causing an increase in inattention and hyperactivity, and about people self-diagnosing based on videos they watch on social media (and not for the first time either).
Private vs. Public Clinics
Kiri Vanderwel, who was diagnosed with ADHD a little more than two years ago, after giving birth to her second child, was one of three guests on the show. Kiri shared that the wait to meet with a practitioner virtually through a private clinic was only two weeks, whereas the wait was over two years to see someone locally through B.C. public health.
