What does Neurodiversity have to do with capitalism?
Why do socialism, Marxism, and similar leftist philosophies resonate with a lot of Neurodivergent, Deaf, and Disabled people?
Obviously I don’t speak for any community as a whole. Communities are not homogenous, there will be significant varieties of perspectives in each. I can only comment on my own experiences and observations.
I believe these leftist philosophies resonate with many of us for several reasons. The three primary reasons being:
- We are frequently marginalized, oppressed, and treated as a “lower” class of people;
- Neurodivergent folks tend to be non-conformists and think outside the box;
- Many neurodivergent folks have very strong justice sensitivity and are intolerant of inequity and injustice.
Ableism and the surplus class
