We are all people and we are so easy to manipulate!
American professor Brian Wansink from Cornell University, an expert in consumer psychology, showed us how it’s possible to trick the brain and make people to continue eating even if they are already full.
The study examined consumption intake volume using self-refilling soup bowls. Soup was served in modified restaurant-style table in which two of four bowls slowly and imperceptibly refilled as their contents were consumed via hidden tubes.

Participants who were unknowingly eating from self-refilling bowls ate 73% more soup than those who ate from regular bowls.

You may wonder how it’s associated with digital, design or marketing?
It really is!

In example, this special “tube” on Facebook timeline infinitely loads news into feed.
There are also infinite-scrolling pages with products on some online stores. Digital agencies tend to gradually load and show related projects on the single page.

What other examples do you know?
Can you figure out any examples in your everyday online-environment?
What techniques could be implemented in accordance with this principle?
*With the social networks that’s clear, but do you know any other not so obvious examples?
