How to get out of the writer’s basement
5 Terrible Writing Tips New Writers Don’t Recognize Are Wrong
I give you this message because I’m doing my bit for humanity and the writing community
I read terrible writing tips so often that I worry about new writers who don’t know any better. Like them, if I were fresh to the keyboard, I’d lap up every slither of advice without realizing my mistake.
Bad guidance clogs up writing platforms and steers greenhorns in the wrong direction.
However, it proliferates. I thought I’d do my bit for humanity and clear up misconceptions.
The problem is newbies issue guidance before they have the skills to help, not hinder.
Let me explain.
Imagine a basement full of penguins who want to break out and get to the top floor of the building.
One says, “I know what to do! Let’s build a raft!”
The others, who don’t understand that a raft won’t help agree. Pretty soon, rafts clog up the basement. No one rises to another floor, and the penguins can’t move for rafts.
Everyone cries, “But we’re on rafts! Why aren’t we getting anywhere?”
