Have you ever studied your audience statistics on Medium, mainly your email subscribers? I do this occasionally and come up with the same question: “Are my email subscribers reading my stories, or are they deleting the email notifications whenever I publish something?”

When I check my Medium notifications regarding my claps and comments I see very few names from my subscriber list. This leads me to conclude that the majority of my subscribers either decide not to read the article they have received or they automatically delete the email notification.

There are times when I receive email notifications from those I subscribe to, but I am not interested in the subject matter, so I delete the email. However, most articles I read come from my email notifications of those I subscribe to.

The lack of reads from my subscribers has led me to decide not to switch to Substack from Medium to increase my readership and earnings. I have 45 subscribers on Medium, and I can imagine how many I would need to have on Substack to make any money!

How do other people feel about the importance of subscribers to your success?
