Being Obsessive Is Actually Awesome
Why does it get such bad press?
Being obsessed can have a lot of negative connotations. People will tell you;
‘You’re obsessed with that’
‘Don’t be so obsessive.’
Children are taken to task by parents or teachers for being obsessed with one particular thing.
There is even a disorder for people who are overly obsessed; obsessive compulsive disorder. Ok, this takes obsession into a whole new area, but you get what I mean.
It seems that the world is convinced there’s something inherently wrong with being obsessed.
And yes, I get it, when you’re fixated on something that doesn’t serve any purpose or takes over your life, like making sure all the appliances at home are switched on and off twenty times before you leave the house is not a good obsession and you may need specialist treatment for it.
But ‘obsession’ can be channeled for good.
How Obsession Works for the Good
I saw a quote from the MMA fighter Conor Mcgregor on his the nature of his success;
‘ There’s no talent here. This is an obsession. You could be anyone if you put in the time. I am not talented, I am obsessed.’
