For the past few years, I have had people impersonate me, and not in a good way. It is an honor but not the recognition I like.

Scammers are part of a billion-dollar industry and they want your money.

The Federal Trade Commission reported people lost $10 billion in scams in 2023. This was a 14% increase over the prior year.

Investment scams are the biggest of all scams.

Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection said:

“Digital tools are making it easier than ever to target hard-working Americans, and we see the effects of that in the data we’re releasing today. The FTC is working hard to take action against those scams.”

If someone on Medium looks like me and has a similar picture and asks you for something or has an investment proposal, then run away and report the account because it’s not me. I would never do that.

The same goes for social media as well.

My doppelganger has created fake accounts of me on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram besides Medium.

The FTC said that the imposter scam reported losses of $2.7 billion last year.

Stay safe and be aware of people asking or mentioning money-making scams in conversations with them! It is definitely not me.

Has anyone created a fake account of you online?
