Hello, No Goodbye

It happens every time, so far. 99% of the men who contact me on a dating site follow the same pattern: they offer a compliment on my smile, my figure, etc. We start chatting and progress to exchanging phone numbers. They may call or text a few times. Things seem to be going well.

Then, they disappear.

I send a follow-up text and may get a curt response or no response at all. They’ve decided to disappear and I have no idea why.

Nothing else to do but let them go.

Again, 99% of the men I meet do this.

I can only guess they looked at my pictures and didn’t get around to reading the profile until we started texting. Then, they decided, “this is not the right woman for me.”

If so, why not bow out gracefully, maybe say “best of luck,” and move on with courtesy?

But no, they just fade away.

Is it just me? I talk to other women in my age group and find its happening to them too. Younger women describe a similar pattern. Men show up, collect a phone number, maybe use it once or twice, then move on.
