You will feel much better after reading my life-changing article

Unless you’ve been hibernating in a cave, you’ve probably noticed that earnings are down for most writers.

Things have been bad for the past month, but they weren't too great even before the crash. Trying to get an update from Medium staff is like playing the ultimate game of hide and seek. Instead of “Where’s Waldo?” it’s more like “Where’s Tony?”

Despite these low earnings, it’s possible to still be happy and carefree. All you need to do is keep these things in mind before you reach for another cup of coffee or an anti-depressant.

Earnings are Slightly Up

Yes, you read that right. Earnings are slightly up from a few weeks ago. Most stories earn around three cents per read. Earning three cents per read isn’t too bad, especially if you are living in the 1800s. Many people love to say they don’t care about the money, so making less than $1 a day is just an added bonus.

You Find Out Who Your Real Friends Are

Trying to figure out who is genuinely interested in your article and who is engagement farming is always difficult. Do they really care about reading my article about Bigfoot, or are they just looking for a reciprocal read? When earnings are shit, it separates the true friends from the fake ones.

No Need to Worry About Taxes

Paying taxes is about as fun as reading an article about data science. One of the good things about making next to nothing on Medium is that you don’t have to worry about paying taxes if you are in the USA. Of course, you might starve to death, but at least you won’t owe Uncle Sam any money.

You Will Never Run Out of Material

An added bonus of making pennies is that you will never run out of material. You can literally complain, I mean, write about the same topic over and over again. Once you get tired of that, you can read the 750th article about other writings complaining about low earnings.

Perfect Excuse to Check Out Substack

Once you get used to working for free, you can check out Substack and see if you can strike it rich. Will it happen? Probably not, but it’s fun to try, and you never know what might happen. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

Speaking of Substack, you are more than welcome to check out my profile. I can’t even get my own mom or other family members to pay for the things I write, but I guarantee you it will be the best $5 you ever spent. I would never overpromise or slightly exaggerate the truth.

Alright, I’m done. What keeps you motivated to write on Medium?
