I Figured Out a Way to Stay Motivated on Medium
It works for me, but might not be relevant for you
No worries, I’m not here to gripe or complain. At least not today. I can’t make any promises for the future.
So, I went for a walk yesterday while enjoying the beauty of a dreary gray day in the middle of winter. I often get my best ideas whenever I go for a walk. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to stay active on Medium without constantly publishing crap to feed the algorithm.
Then it finally hit me.
I can use the new articles I write on Medium and crosspost them on Substack as well and still offer them for free. In other words, I can remain active on Medium while still publishing free content on Substack. No worries, I will only send out an email once, so my subscribers won’t get the same article sent to spam, I mean their inbox twice.
I will also publish one or two paid articles on Substack each week. At least, that’s the plan.
I’ve been busy with client work, but I’m looking forward to spending more time on Substack. It’s actually a lot better than I thought it would be. I’m also getting more reads on Substack, and I haven’t even been that active, which is a nice change of pace from having to publish an article every day to feed the algorithm on Medium.
Even if I never earn anything, I would rather have the potential to earn money than always make 50 cents or a dollar for each article on Medium. I actually made $2.41 yesterday, so that’s a new record.
Hopefully, things will change soon because I have no plans to leave here. Best case scenario — Medium comes back to normal, and Substack turns into another source of income. Worst case scenario — well, I won’t even go there!
So, that’s the plan. It will help me to stay motivated to keep writing here while also serving another purpose on Substack. Will things work out? Who knows.
