I Took a Walk Through the Cemetery

I had some extra time on my hands today and I decided to visit the cemetery. Not long ago, this place was full of life and hope. So much to do and so much to see. Almost too much at times.

Nowadays, it’s really quiet. Almost deathly quiet.

Every now and then I hear a rustle in the leaves. Is someone there? Anyone?

Oh…Never mind, it’s just a rat. I wonder what a rat eats in a cemetery? Maybe some questions don’t need answers.

Anyway, I keep walking and searching for signs of life. I see mostly old, familiar names I used to follow on gravestones. Will they ever return or just fade into oblivion?

I sit down and wait. I have no idea what I’m waiting on or if anything will ever change. All I hear is the wind brushing over the crumbling stones, and that same damn rat chewing on whatever’s left.

Things will eventually change again. Nothing ever stays the same.

What once was alive might be dead, but it can also become alive again.
Sure, it might take a few hundred years but I have plenty of time on my hands.

I just wish someone will come back and read my name.
