Make Money Starting Your Own Blog
Successful bloggers share their secrets
Before the pandemic, I was lucky enough to interview three bloggers for a British writing magazine. These bloggers were publishing on their own independent blogs, not on Medium. They were making good money using affiliate links and their stories are inspiring.
I asked, is it really possible to make good money from running your own online blog?
“Yes it is!” say professional travel bloggers, Nick and Dariece, from ‘Goats on the Road’. They earn $2500 (£1920) on a good month and spend 15–20 hours each week working on the blog while they’re travelling. Not a bad fee for blogging about your holidays!
Sophie Lizard, the founder of ‘Be a Freelance Blogger’, says she earns $100 per hour and works about 20 hours per week, which suits her nicely.
Amy Lynn Andrews from ‘Blogging with Amy’ makes $500 a month from blogging 4–6 hours a day. It’s not her primary source of income — her blog is a marketing tool that generates additional work in design and consulting.
Ruth Holroyd from ‘What Allergy’ makes £400 a month from her blog, which she writes in her spare time. She is also a full-time self-employed marketing manager in the allergy and free-from foods industry.
