If you want your writing to stand out. Tell a story that sticks.

But most of us struggle to do it right. I know I did. Telling stories at the pub? No problem. Everyone’s laughing, hanging on to every word. But when I tried weaving stories into my writing?

It felt like I was talking to an empty room. My readers just weren’t engaged.

I knew stories were powerful. They can make things memorable. Pull people in. Illustrate a point like nothing else. But I just couldn’t make it work. So I decided to figure it out. I read everything I could get my hands on. Studied how the best writers told their stories.

I realized I’d been doing it all wrong.

Now I stick to these 5 simple storytelling rules. They’ve completely changed how my readers connect with my work. And sparked huge growth in my audience.

1. Hook them from the start

Your first few lines decide everything.

Get it right, and they’ll keep reading. Get it wrong, and they’re gone.
