Making money as a writer sounds simple, but the reality is different.

Previously, statistics for Medium writers revealed that the average writer didn’t earn over $100. The few who made over $100 were about 6 or 7%.

It’s probably very similar today.

If you’re just starting, I suggest choosing a brand or niche.

You need to focus your writing on your audience and be consistent in that area. While not every article has to be on that topic, the majority should be.

When you do, you’ll attract dedicated followers who are interested to learn more about that topic. Your writing will provide value to them, and you’ll see familiar readers more often.

If you write about anything, you’ll attract different audiences every time.

The vast majority of your articles should lean in one direction.
