Trying to Pick Basketball Games Reminds Why I Never Choose Stocks
March Madness and the stock market both reward patience over guesswork
I know I’m testing fate whenever I write two articles in a row about sports.
Apparently, most sports fans don’t even bother to read in my echo chamber or something like that. However, basketball isn’t the main point of this article. I promise!
Anyway, March is the time of year when college basketball teams play in a big tournament and the winner will be the national champion. Sixty-four teams enter the tournament, and each year I create a bracket with friends and family trying to predict the winners.
I watch almost no college basketball during the regular season, so my knowledge of each team is pretty limited. I do know which colleges are usually good, and each one is seeded one through sixteen in four regions, so I try to go with my gut, and pick a few upsets along the way.
Well, I think I was correct on a couple of upsets, but I was more wrong than right. The tournament will go on for a few more weeks, and I still have a chance to score the most points because all of the teams I picked to reach the Final Four and championship game are still playing.
