Why “Models” Keep Messaging You (and Why They’re Probably Men)
Spoiler: The only thing “she” wants is your credit card info
Hang around any social platform long enough and eventually, a “model” will pop into your DMs with a deeply personal message like “Hey.” If you’re really special, you might even get a “Hey babe” or some other creative masterpiece.
Seriously, don’t take the bait.
Do you honestly think a beautiful woman is reaching out to you out of nowhere because she’s dying to get to know you? Come on. “She” might love your credit card info, but she’s not interested in dating or anything else you’re imagining.
Your best move is to report and block. Unfortunately, logic doesn’t always win.
The odds of a random attractive stranger sliding into your inbox are about the same as spotting a leprechaun riding a T-Rex through your front yard.
I know this sounds like common sense, but did you know that romance scams cost Americans almost $700 million last year? Seriously, I didn’t pull that number out of thin air. I even did research by spending 10 seconds searching on Google to find that information.
It’s a big problem. A really big and expensive problem.
Men aren’t the only targets. Women often get hit with a different version, usually a “deployed U.S. soldier” who somehow has spotty internet but plenty of time to flirt and ask for money.
The goal is simple: take your money. And since most of these scammers are overseas, they’re hard to track down or prosecute.
So, always be vigilant and stay safe.
Real love doesn’t usually come with wire transfer instructions.
