Country Garden by Eda Varricchio
My first piece of art
This is the first piece of art I have ever bought, and I absolutely love it. While I love the colorful flowers, I must admit it was the curious little duck that sold me. Where is it going? Perhaps looking for the other ducks… I found this lithograph at Goodwill for $2.49 if you can believe it. I had to have it.
About the painting
Unfortunately, I was unable to find this particular painting online, so I have very little information aside from the fact that this lithograph was printed by Portal Publications Ltd, with a date of 1988, and the title is Country Garden by Eda Varricchio. I found this information on the back of the lithograph. I am still happy to have it, even being a reprint.
In this painting, we see a white duck emerging from a sea of wildflowers, possibly following a trail that leads to what appears to be a cottage with a dark blue door, under the shade of various trees. I won’t pretend to know what I’m talking about, but this painting has so much color in it that it would be hard to argue that it’s not beautiful, don’t you think?
About the artist
Sadly, little is known about Eda Varricchio. In my research, I learned that she was a contemporary artist born in Turkey to Italian parents. Eda lived 95 years from 1923 to 2018 and had a large following in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Japan, where she was considered to be “one of the finest garden painters.”
Eda was a landscape painter and in each one of her paintings is an abundance of warm-colored flowers and peaceful country scenery. Hopefully, I will come across another Eda Varricchio painting someday.
