The Senate Intelligence Committee has submitted a request to the United States Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FenCEN) for any information on President Donald Trump and his top advisers.

“We’ve made a request, to FinCEN in the Treasury Department, to make sure, not just for example vis-a-vis the president, but just overall our effort to try to follow the intel no matter where it leads,” Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) relayed to CNN.

In further statements, Senator Warner made clear that he and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) submitted the request in conjunction with one another, and that he [Warner] will withhold his support for Undersecretary for Terrorism and Finance nominee Sigal Mandelker until any and all documents are received.

The request comes amid controversy over Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday night, rumored to have happened due to Trump’s annoyance with the FBI’s intensified probe on the administration’s Russia connections.

The Intel Committee has also subpoenaed former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for documents covering his communications with Russian officials — all following the Senate’s recent hearings on Russian election interference and further Trump connections to the Kremlin; one hearing was held with Comey on May 3rd (Senate Judiciary Committee), and another with former acting-Attorney General Sally Yates on May 8th (ibid).
