A Bit About Me

It’s been just past a year now since I started posting articles on Medium, so I guess it’s time I introduced myself. Don’t look for much by way of detail on my personal life — I’m a pretty private person till I get to know you — but here’s the 2-dollar tour of my world, my mind, and my life as a writer.

The surprising thing about me — surprising to me, at least — is that I’m nearly 70 years old. That sounds far older than I feel most days. My life is still a pretty active one, even though between the COVID and the 90-degrees-plus days I don’t get out the way I’d like to. Most of my exercise right now is tapping keys, but that will change.

I live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a beautiful Southern city that punches well above its weight in the arts. I came here 40 years ago for my clinical internship in psychology, and aside from a recent 3-year sojourn in Arkansas for one more graduate degree, this has been my hometown ever since. I’ve been active in the Winston-Salem Writers since the year it started, and singing bass in the choir at the local Unitarian Universalist Fellowship since around 2010.

There’s always been a lot of music in my life. Choirs to sing in and sometimes direct. Piano in my early years, guitar later on. My mother taught piano lessons; all her sisters…
