The murder of far right-wing, so-called “conservative” Charlie Kirk has been placed into proper historical and contemporary contexts in an insightful Vanity Fair piece penned by celebrated author and essayist Ta-Nahesi Coates. In less than 1,000 words, Coates conflates the Civil War “lost cause” mythology with the murder of Charlie Kirk. Coates takes aim at both far-right-wing “conservatives” and “liberals”, progressives and politicos, especially those who purport to “ally” with African Americans and our never-ending struggle for simple recognition as human beings.

Coates notes that the great bulk of white right-wingers, as is par for their course, unequivocally endorse Charlie Kirk’s white racism and white supremacy because…well… that’s just who they are and what they do. His ire, however, is directed mainly at so-called “liberal” scribes and media mavens for their feigned blindness or willful ignorance as to Kirk’s many hateful utterances. Indeed, it is these folk who, even moreso than so-called “conservatives,” seem primed and ready to sanitize, whitewash, or obliterate altogether Kirk’s loathsome white Christian nationalist persona, rhetoric, and ideas.
