A Love Poem
Steadfast love
You always loved me
I could see it in your eyes
I didn’t know why
— you would love me
What do you love?
I am nothing
I am nobody
yet you love me
Why?
I know it’s pure
And it’s true
I can feel it
And I believe it
But I just don’t know why
Why would anyone want to love me?
I’m not worth much
But you think I am
You see me
And you still love me
I can’t escape your love
You keep pursuing me
Even though I turn my back on you
I ignore you
I think I don’t need you
I can do just fine without you
But, you’re still there
— you won’t go away
Everyone else goes
They can’t take it
— the truth
It sends them running
But, you are still here
— you believed in me
You didn’t give up on me
You didn’t think I was worthless
A nothing
A nobody
You stuck by me
Maybe I am worth something
— maybe I am not a nobody
I think I can see it now
I think I can see what you see
— in me
How precious I really am
I am the apple of your eye
& you just can’t stop loving me.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.”
