In a world that often rushes forward at a rapid pace, the concept of long life can feel like a fuge in a desert of temporary moments. With advances in medicine, technology, and quality of life, the potential for longevity is more promising than ever before. Yet, beyond the physical realm, the pursuit of a long and fulfilling life connects with our deepest desires for purpose and meaningful existence.

We frequently seek strategies to maintain and extend our stay on Earth in our search for longevity. We exercise, eat healthily, and engage in other routines to improve our health. While these efforts are admirable, Proverbs 9:11 highlights an important truth that surpasses the physical realm: “For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of our modern lives, we are called to reflect on the profound wisdom embedded within the Scriptures. Long life is not merely a gift of genetics or a result of human endeavors; it’s a divine promise tied to our relationship with the Creator.

Psalm 91:16 declares, “With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” — This verse underscores the intimate link between long life and salvation. Embracing God’s salvation plan through Christ Jesus ensures a life that extends beyond the temporal, connecting us to eternity.

God’s commandments are pathways to the abundance of life. Obedience to His laws not only brings spiritual enrichment but also extends the days of our earthly journey. Proverbs 3:1–2: “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”

A life in reverence for God and adherence to His commandments becomes a legacy of faith passed down through generations, ensuring the continuity of blessings and long life. Deuteronomy 6:2 says, “That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.”

Brethren, In the pursuit of a long life, we are drawn to the eternal wellspring of life — Jesus Christ who created all things (Colossians 1:16–17). He offers not only the promise of long life but the assurance of life everlasting. John 3:16 encapsulates this truth: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Believing Jesus Christ guarantees eternal life, for without controversy, Jesus the Creator of life is the source of eternal life.

May our days be marked by the abundance that comes from knowing and trusting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour.

Always Begin With God
