Ways to soothe your frazzled nerves
We are having a very stressful storm as I write this. The wind is howling outside, gusting past 50 mph. Elsewhere in the state, things are even worse, up to 80 mph. Rain is heavy and the storm presses on.
Twice in recent years, a tree has fallen on my house, once nearly killing me, so it is never a welcome thing to ride out these windstorms. I need to move, I remind myself, a fact pushed away by the lazy more carefree days of spring and summer.
It is in times like these, and maybe less dangerous times like running late for an appointment, or feeling anxiety over having to do a public presentation, that our spiritual practice can be tapped into.

Practicing mindfulness can be as simple as paying attention to your breath. Or holding a rock or crystal or anything from the earth. Mindfulness is the practice of slowing down our minds, focusing on the present, and being aware.
