MEDITATION
A Different Perspective
Know Yourself as Beyond Time and Space
See the person you imagine yourself to be as part of the world you perceive with your mind, and look at your mind from the outside because you are not the mind.
After all, your only problem is your eagerness to identify yourself with everything you perceive. Break this habit; remember that you are not what you perceive. Use the power of your distant and alert attitude.
See yourself in everything that is living, then your actions will express your understanding. When you realize that nothing in this world belongs to you, you will watch it from the outside, like a play on stage or a movie on the screen, enjoying and taking pleasure in it but not being affected by it.
As long as you imagine yourself as a tangible, concrete thing placed in time and space, a short-lived and fragile object, it is natural to be preoccupied with survival and reproduction.
But if you know yourself as beyond time and space and know that you are only in contact with them in the here and now but otherwise omnipresent, all-encompassing, unattainable, invincible, and unbreakable, then you will have no fear.
Know yourself; there is no other remedy against fear. You have to learn to think and feel in this way; otherwise, you will remain indefinitely on the personal level of desires and fears, gaining and losing, growing and decaying.
MAHARAJ
The further a human being distances themselves from their inner world, the closer they approach disaster. There is a mathematical certainty. As one approaches God, peace, joy, happiness, and beauty come. As one distances oneself from God, one’s inner world darkens, filling with distress, depression, stress, and tension.
In one of his poems, Fazıl Hüsnü Dağlarca says,
‘My child, pray at night, for man can distance himself from God.’
Human beings should organize their lives in such a way that with every word, every thought, and every action, they can get a little closer to God.
In Sufism, there is a concept called ‘namaz-ı daimûn,’ meaning: being with God at every moment, living with that consciousness at all times… While sitting, standing, eating, drinking, reading, writing, walking, shopping, and while talking with one’s spouse and children, those who are with their Lord at every moment are beautiful people. They are as if in worship.
