Hands That Heal: Shiva, Buddha, Jesus and the Ancient Science of Mudras
Ancient gestures, timeless healing
Mudras are elaborate hand and finger gestures that have symbolic meaning as a visual language. Also known as Yoga of the hands and fingers, their energetic powers can be directed to heal and influence energies within our body. As a visual language, mudras mean specific meditative practices, particular deities and cultural rituals like dance, painting and sculpture. Every subtle physical movement conveys meaning to the viewer and practitioner. Non-verbal communication sustains the potency of the spoken word, relating concepts like the ‘Good Law’, courage, worship and knowledge. These symbols point the way towards the goal of attaining Enlightenment.
If we look at the central image, we notice that Shiva, Buddha, St. Nicholas and Jesus all seem to be making similar gestures.
