Hocus Pocus- Magic for the Modern World
How to practice magic in urban areas
Centuries ago people practicing earth magic had an ample amount of nature to do so with. Wild herbs, flowers, various bark from trees, river rocks, sea glass, driftwood, shells, and more were on hand with ease.
Today, many people live in urban areas where our access to nature isn’t as easy. This includes both cities and suburbs. Today it’s more common for us to walk paved sidewalks rather than trails in the woods. To look out our window and see utility poles and wires instead of trees and water landscapes.
The challenges of practicing magic in the modern world
The practice of magic has to do with connection to earth and moon, seasons, intention, and balance. It can be more of a challenge to connect and practice these when we are in a highly populated area.
It can be challenging to ground ourselves when we live in an apartment far from the ground. Or connect to subtle energies when a loud siren cuts across the streets below us.
It can feel impossible to truly connect when our only green space is a neighborhood park, a far cry from the deep woods, mystical mountains, or hushed glens magic was once practiced in.
