In 2000, Krista Gorman graduated to become a physical assistant. But that wasn’t the only thing to celebrate that season. She was about to give birth.
Krista started to feel her chest fluttering in the labor room. She told her mother that she was having trouble breathing.
A nurse was quickly called. That was not the first time they’d had mothers with an amniotic fluid embolism crisis. So they knew exactly what to do
First, they took Krista’s mom out of the room. Then, they put Krista on oxygen and prepared her for the operating room as quickly as they could.
The priority was to deliver the baby via an emergency C-section.
In her mind, Krista was solely focused on breathing. This thing we all take for granted felt nearly impossible as her lungs collapsed.
Finally, the struggle ended, and Krista felt so much peace.
She closed her eyes and fell into another realm.
