Bill Clinton Berns Sanders

Former president, future first-gentleman?

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was joined at a campaign rally at New Hampshire Community College on Monday by an entourage that included her husband and daughter, New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan, and Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

After the governor, the senator, and Chelsea Clinton spoke on the secretary of state’s record of public service, including her work for the disabled and her tenure at Foggy Bottom, former President Bill Clinton took to the stage. He celebrated her ability to achieve results and hailed her as “the best changemaker [he’s] ever known.”

That’s where he drew a biting, yet mild-sounding, contrast with Clinton’s opponent.

Mr. Clinton reminded the crowd of how Mrs. Clinton used her closing statement at the Democratic debate in Charleston to discuss the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Although he acknowledged that both Clinton and Sanders were outraged with the Michigan State Government, and that Sanders had called for Gov. Rick Snyder’s resignation prior to the debate, he praised his wife for moving beyond rhetoric and taking a trip up to Michigan to call attention to the issue.

“You want a president who says ‘What can I do to make it better?’”

On the eve of the New Hampshire Primary, in the face of a possible double digit loss, it appears that the Clinton campaign is making a last-ditch effort to prove that the former Secretary of State can, unlike her rival, carry through with an agenda.
