MANCHESTER, NH — “Well, God bless the state of New Hampshire,” Senator Ted Cruz opened his speech at both his rally at American Legion Post 2 Sweeney here on Monday and his “Meet and Greet” at Pedraza’s Mexican Restaurant in Keene, New Hampshire on Sunday.

In his Monday rally, Mr. Cruz recited long Biblical passages and sections of scripture. His success in Iowa was largely attributed to evangelical Christian voters. At Sunday’s “Meet and Greet,” Sen. Cruz took a moment to pray with two supporters.

Despite this heavily Christian influence on Mr. Cruz’s campaign, the event at the American Legion was attended by at least three Jews—one “black hat” and two with yarmulkes and payes.

Israel Mendelwitz and Joel Weiss, both of New York, NY, are Orthodox Jews who attended Mr. Cruz’s American Legion event yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Mendelwitz said he was attracted to Sen. Cruz because he is “someone who’s gonna fight terrorism and build up the economy.”

When asked how the senator’s faith and emphasis on Judeo-Christian values affected his support, Mr. Mendelwitz said, “It doesn’t bother me.” Mr. Mendelwitz added that faith is “personal” and that he would elect anyone, including a Muslim.

“He’s not a bullshitter,” Mr. Mendelwitz explained what distinguished Mr. Cruz from the other candidates, “He says what he’s gonna do.”
