Hate vs Love

Choose Love

Hate… What has it ever been good for?

Throughout human history, theologians and philosophers alike have tried to explain the degradations of hate. Here are a few of those attempts to define hate and warn us all…

  • The Christian Bible texts often depict hatred as a sin, contrary to God’s nature of love, and condemn it as a destructive force.
  • Socrates believed that misology — a hatred of argument, reasoning, or enlightenment — distorted the view of the world and prevented rational thought.
  • “Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” ~Dr. Martin Luther King
  • “Hate can also harm the person who harbors it, as it can lead to bitterness, resentment, and even violence.” ~Thomas Merton
  • “Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” ~Coretta Scott King
  • “Someone who hates one group will end up hating everyone — and, ultimately, hating himself or herself.” ~Elie Wiesel

My perspective

Righteous anger is not the same thing as hate.

People are righteously angry over the devastation wreaked upon the most at risk people in the world to further enrich the already obscenely rich. Unreasoning…
