Infographic made by Joe Nash using Adobe Illustrator

For my latest project, I was instructed to record and relay my phone usage for any span of time of my choosing. Pictured above is an infographic I created to illustrate my media usage in the span of two weeks. I then took that information and separated the two weeks to compare each. However, I only illustrated the amount of time used on my four most visited apps: Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube.

The top pie chart shows the time spent on the apps from the week of January 24th to January 31st. Counting all other apps for the total usage of that week, I spent exactly 27 hours and 21 minutes on my phone, averaging 6 hours and 50 minutes each day. I spent almost an even constant amount of time on YouTube and Snapchat, but overall my usage on all four apps was not too far off from each other.

The bottom pie chart shows the time spent on the four apps from the week of January 31st to February 7th. As shown by the data, I largely surpassed the time spent on my phone the previous week, with a total of 73 hours and 28 minutes. My average time was totaled at 10 hours and 29 minutes each day. My time spent on YouTube and Snapchat alone took up over half of my total time, coming in at 39 hours and 2 minutes together. Altogether, my time spent on my my phone in total and my time spent on the four chosen apps more than doubled that of the previous week.

In descending order, my time spent on the four chosen apps ranked the same for both weeks: YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. If I were to somehow justify the monumental difference between the usage of both weeks, I would point the largest factor to sleep. Since the beginning of February, I have been moving my sleep schedule so that I wake up earlier and not risk missing any of my lectures. As a result, I have been sleeping an average of 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night compared to the previous week, where I was sleeping an average of 10 hours a night.
