Auto ethnography of social , cultural , technological changes in my life.

It was on the verge of 20th century when I was introduced to the world, from that time and now I have seen significant changes in social, cultural and technological aspects. I was born in a village in a joint family of 14 members and everyone used to enjoy the privileges of life that time, like there were more bonding with the neighbours, other people in village. People used to discuss many things openly, be it issues or the situations or political issues. Many children didn’t go to school regularly and now the awareness has increased.

People sitting together in-front of TV

We used to sit together for eating and see many programs in TV. We used to go to temples with whole family and go to theatres in nearby town, or every big movie release. Now due to urbanisation and technological changes, many changes have came to picture like watching movies in mobiles and social isolation. Due to the technological changes and the effects it kept on youth , the bonding has been decreased.

Nostalgic Cycles

When I was a child, means of transport was majorly a bicycle or a motor cycle. Now, I hardly see bicycles in my village and everyone changed to motorcycles. People are getting more jobs now due to urbanisation, and people are travelling more. Earlier people were restricted to the village, now it has been decreased.

I have seen a significant social change in marriage age limit for women and men. Now, I hardly see child marriages . Health and educational awareness has increased a lot. Jobs for women have been increased. Due to the urbanisation, many people started shifting to cities, town including myself. Nuclear family is the scenario now , I can’t see a home with more than 6 members now.

Cultural dance became a smaller name now.

There have been significant cultural changes, people started attracting to western culture leaving the mighty Indian culture. Cultural dances and music, being one of the strong cultural aspect of India earlier but now we can’t see them often.

Everything is digital now.

Coming to technological intervention in India, everything is digital now and people became busy with them and the devices became like a one more family member. Mobile phones became a part of life.

Thank you for your time.
