ESPN Cricinfo vs Cricbuzz
Content Analysis
Being a die-hard fan of cricket right from my childhood, I’m very much interested in following all the cricket matches going around in the world along with all the other cricket related stuff like listening to cricket pundits, debating with them, keeping a track of the stats and numbers and what not. I still remember the time when I was a kid, the first thing I would do every morning is directly open the last page newspaper where the cricket section used to be and memorize all the stats and stories and then debate over it with friends in the school.
CricBuzz and ESPN Cricinfo are two of the most popular online media websites in India which cover the game of cricket exclusively. Content-wise, both platforms take pride in their own way.
Cricbuzz is popular for its fast coverage of live cricket scores, amazing website and mobile app, unbiased content while ESPN Cricinfo is known for the different stats it maintains ”Statsguru”, columns written by prominent writers, the monthly magazine “The Cricket Monthly” and its video analysis.
ESPN Cricinfo has a statistics engine so powerful it’ll blow your mind. They keep records of almost all matches that happen around the globe. I’ve always loved numbers and even the most ardent Cricbuzz fan would admit that when it comes to facts and figures and stats, Cricinfo — with its massive database and Statsguru — quite surpasses all other sites. Both the platforms focus a lot on the analysis part of the game. Cricbuzz’s analysis is mostly based on arguments and possibilities, ESPN Cricinfo’s analysis is heavily backed by stats and numbers. When it comes to commentary, its a real difficult task comparing both and choosing the best out of them. Although, I prefer reading Cricbuzz’s commentary over ESPN Cricinfo’s as it helps explains the situation of the game better. Engaging the viewers in the game is other primary goal that both of the platforms are aiming from. ESPN Cricinfo earlier started including the opinions of the people in between the commentary during a live match to keep the viewers engaged and now cricbuzz is following the same steps for to engage its users.
With both these platforms having plenty of data and the power to analyse it, the next big thing I expect to see is how these platforms come up with new ways to keep their users engaged on the go.
