Transportation System Design

Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms. from the heart of the city.

Current modes of transportation are
1. Bus services
2. Ferry services
3. Cab service

But there lies huge gap between these transportation systems as the time taken by the these means is huge and moreover students don’t know about the availability of the seats in buses.

Moreover in case of cabs most of the drivers refuse to come to campus as it is 20 kms away from the city and Ola/Uber drivers don’t get that much benefit.

Speaking of the ferry, you don’t know the timings for the ferry services and moreover there lies another gap for the commute between ferry ghat and campus. At late night hours the auto rickshaw charges a huge amount.

Proposed Solution :

We can have a dedicated minibus type service from Khokha gate to ferry ghat and along with that we can have a dedicated ferry service by IIT G itself. The details of the mini bus and ferry could be automatically assigned to the user, he just have to enter his details that he wants to travel from IIT to City or City to IIT, 30 minutes prior to his departed time. Then accordingly our system will provide the user with the available minbus number and ferry number and a seat would be reserved for that user.
