Transportation System design for IIT Guwahati Students to commute from college to the city.

Due to the geographical location of the IIT Guwahati, which separates it from the main city, it become very cumbersome for a student to commute from College to the city. The availability of limited options from college such as IIT G bus service, Ferry services that runs from the Brahmaputra ghat; it becomes challenging for a student to think of options if one misses the bus. The only option left is the use of cab service which are expensive due to the location of the college. Even reaching the ghat to avail the ferry and other constraints such as weather and river flow and safety concerns makes it challenging to avail the ferry service.
During my exploration of the public commute used in the city, i came across many options which are being used in the city for daily commute. One of the service that runs efficiently in the city is the public bus service which connects the major part of the cities to each other.
This system also addressed the challenge of no connectivity from IIT G main gate to the main road. This is one of the major reason why a student doesn’t think about availing the public buses which runs from North Guwahati to the city. If a student misses the bus, the only option left is either cab service or to take the ferry service.
If we could have a dedicate auto service which would connect the main gate of IIT G to the main road(NH27), a student would consider using the public bus which is of course cheap and takes less time than the college bus.
The system still need to consider lot of factors such as time constraint, authority involved, stakeholders and human resources. As the research will progress, I would keep updating the system and the blog.
