Wandering in Library — Practicing Aimlessness

Recently in our creativity and innovation class we were asked to wander in the library and not to have any prejudice regarding any specific subject and while practicing aimlessness pick any book that interests you and blog about it.

Being from a design background I have always been inclined towards design discipline books. This time I thought let’s go to the political science section and let’s try something new. There this book “The Soldier and the State in India” by Ayesha Roy caught my attention.

The book talked about the relationship between India’s political leadership and military, basically talking of the civil-military relations. The book also highlighted the strategies and how the things happened between state and army during the wars with Pakistan and China.

After going through the book one major question which came to my mind was

“ Why Pakistan have been frequently prone to rise in dictatorship whereas India is not ? “

After going through certain blogs online I can say that absence of coups in India by Indian Army is due to it’s high degree of professionalization which was result of years of indoctrination, selection and training.

Further I also read about how on 26th October 1947, Kashmir became the part of India, what all political and social changes impacted this, what led Maharaja Hari Singh to sign Instrument of Accession and what were the impact of this decision on the upcoming generations. Never ending Kahsmir Conflict?
