What changed around!
From reading newspapers early in the morning to scrolling endlessly on Facebook for news updates and other things; life around us has changed a lot. I still remember those days when I used to hangout with my friends at a local chinese thela and we used to keep on continuously talking and laughing at each other while we were around. But today, when I go around to hangout with my friends, I can see most of them stuck to their phones for the whole time, either chatting with someone or busy uploading stories on their instagram.
“Every coin has two face”, So has technology.
Technology as evolved a lot, especially in the last 10 years, having both positive and negative contributions to the society. When I was a kid, my mom used to play the radio box every weekend to listen to music and news and the whole family would listen to it. Now with the evolution of phones, each one of us is glued to a corner in a room listening to own personal music over a headphone. Earlier gully cricket and box football were one of the favorite games of every kid, where everyone would come down to play in the society parking after coming back from school. Today, these games have been replaced by smartphone games like PUBG, Mini Militia, etc. Back in those days, I used to observe the neighbours in my society interacting a lot with each other, especially the women, who would share and teach food recipes with each other. Today, this sharing culture has been replaced by online food recipe videos on youtube. Voice calling was a big thing back then in 2000’s, now we have advanced on to video calling and in future maybe telepathy conversations might be even possible.
India is known for diversity and prosperity in its Culture. Indian Culture has influenced by a lot of changes and many of them has incorporated in this culture remaining the other features intact. These changes were very much necessary for the development of our society. A major change that can be sensed in Indian Culture is the change in Indian Cinema. Today film makers are moving to the various social issues and giving the Indian cinema a touch of perfection. Indian children back in times were awakened in the morning to prayers in adoration of a deity. Worshipping was a very important part of Indians life. Over years this practice has been diminishing away. Back then touching the feet of our elders was a sign of greeting which has now been replaced by a simple “hello” or a “hi”.
Socially, the biggest change which we can see in our society is the changing role of women. Earlier women in India were considered only as homemakers and their abilities were judged only fit for performing household chores. Now, one can see women excelling and leading in different fields.
“There are periods in history when change is necessary, and other periods when it is better to keep everything for the time as it is. The art of life is to be in the rhythm of your age and the rhythm of the world around you.” — Oswald Mosley
Finally in the words of great master oogway,
“Yesterday is a history,
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift,
That is why it is called present”
