Hardware Hot List
In today’s Hardware Hotlist, Meerkat announces a new way to stream from your GoPro camera for even higher quality streams on the go.
While the smartphone app Meerkat has been letting folks stream directly from their phones for several months now, this week they announced a new feature that kicks things up a notch. Sure, most smartphone cameras are pretty good, but a GoPro camera is even better. Why not merge the two and allow the Meerkat app to connect to your GoPro via WiFi and then stream that high-quality footage out to the net live. This is exactly what the latest version of the Meerkat app does.
To link up your GoPro to Meerkat you first connect to the GoPro using the iOS GoPro app, then launch Meerkat, give your phone a shake and Meerkat starts using the GoPro camera instead of your built-in smartphone camera.
The GoPro streaming currently only works with GoPro 3 and 4 series cameras and iOS, although an Android app (and it sounds like GoPro Hero 4 Session support) is coming in future releases.
