After pioneering original content creation for over-the-top services, Netflix announced that it will also be increasing film production in the coming year. Five films are currently slated, including,

Beasts of No Nation, written and directed by Emmy Award winner Cary Fukunaga. It’s a story about a child soldier fighting in a civil war.

Next is the first of 4 Adam Sandler films. The Ridiculous Six, which has already received some negative press when Native American extras walked off the set after being offended by allegedly racist jokes.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend is a sequel to this movie series and features several actors from the original films. it will be released in theaters in China and globally on Netflix.

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday with Paul Reubens will be released, in March 2016. In a followup on previous stories how the influence of YouTube celebrities is outpacing traditional media celebrities among children, it seems that new media celebrities are also finding more influence among adults. A recent article from Ad Age reports that,

“Adults in the U.S. consider YouTube stars to be up to five times more influential and believable than traditional celebrities, according to a study conducted by University of Southern California marketing professor Jeetendr Sehdev.”

The study surveyed 1,500 18- to 59-year-old adults in the U.S. and asked them which YouTube stars they knew and how influential they rated each to be.

The top 3 YouTube influencers among adults were Jenna Marbles, Bethany Mota and PewDiePie.

You can find the complete list of YouTube influencers in the Ad Age article using the link in the show notes.

Hardware Hot List

In today’s Hardware Hotlist, Meerkat announces a new way to stream from your GoPro camera for even higher quality streams on the go.

While the smartphone app Meerkat has been letting folks stream directly from their phones for several months now, this week they announced a new feature that kicks things up a notch. Sure, most smartphone cameras are pretty good, but a GoPro camera is even better. Why not merge the two and allow the Meerkat app to connect to your GoPro via WiFi and then stream that high-quality footage out to the net live. This is exactly what the latest version of the Meerkat app does.

To link up your GoPro to Meerkat you first connect to the GoPro using the iOS GoPro app, then launch Meerkat, give your phone a shake and Meerkat starts using the GoPro camera instead of your built-in smartphone camera.

The GoPro streaming currently only works with GoPro 3 and 4 series cameras and iOS, although an Android app (and it sounds like GoPro Hero 4 Session support) is coming in future releases.
