Getting Above The Noise

I was thinking over the weekend, the internet has created both the best and worst of times for indie music — its the worst of times, as there are some many other artists and bands out there all seeking the goal of music success — but its also the best of times as now its simpler than ever to record, produce, package and distribute music at a far lower cost than ever but…

How do you get above the noise and have someone actual listen and take notice of your music. Well one of the key ways is to be truly different, and by that I don’t mean just 10% different, strive to be completely out there.

But, if that’s not for you try this, seek out a unique place to develop your audience. Perhaps you can make music for dog lovers and play dog parks or perhaps you can be like the guy I met recently who’s making a good living playing gigs in State and Federal prisons, yes really!

The other way is to make this clear decision take control of your own career and make a plan to control it yourself, meaning release your own music, book your own shows and do it all if you can but that can be a hugge task to take on if your a solo artist so build a team to help you — if you’re in a band then work out the skills of each band member and assign them each tasks that seek to move the band forward a little each day.

I call this Single Daily Action SDA, here is one that you can start today, have each member of the band seeks to add at least 5 new fans to the fan database each day. This then looks like this 4 band members x 5 new fans x 7 days = 140 new fans a week which is over 7,200 a year.

The biggest thing is don’t be overwhelmed just start doing start single daily action and when it become a habit in your day to day add a new one and so on…

Until we talk again…

I like to work with truly creative artists. I believes all artists should remain in total control of their own music career and I seek to help make this happen.
